Polyethylene (PE) is a light, versatile synthetic resin made from the polymerization of ethylene. It is the most widely used plastic in the world, being made into products ranging from clear food wrap and shopping bags to detergent bottles and automobile fuel tanks. It can also be slit or spun into synthetic fibres or modified to take on the elastic properties of a rubber.

Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) is a very flexible material with very unique flow properties that makes it particularly suitable to plastic film applications like shopping bags. LDPE has high ductility but low tensile strength which is evident in the real world by its propensity to stretch when strained.

High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) is a strong, high density, moderately stiff plastic with a highly crystalline structure. It is frequently used as a plastic for milk cartons, laundry detergent, garbage bins, and cutting boards.

Polyethylene, like other plastics, starts with the distillation of hydrocarbon fuels (ethane in this case) into lighter groups called “fractions” some of which are combined with other catalysts to produce plastics (typically via polymerization or polycondensation).

Polyethylene (PE) in Turkmenistan

According to the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan, the level of use of production facilities for the production of polyethylene in the Turkmenbashi complex of oil refineries (TKNPZ) reached 93.5%. This demonstrates the excellent technical condition of the plant and the availability of high quality raw materials.

Turkmenistan began the sale of polypropylene (PP) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) from a new gas chemical complex in the village of Kiyanly (Balkan region, Turkmenistan).

The plant will annually process 5 billion cubic meters of natural gas and produce 386,000 tons of polyethylene and 81,000 tons of polypropylene.
